Step 4 - Filtering
When presenting your portfolio to a university committee or a prospective employer, you should only include items that are the best representation of your skills.
If you have ten papers written over several classes, including the best two would be a better choice than including all ten. Including an example of each different type of item you have collected may also be fine. The process of filtering involves taking collecting items and deciding which to include in your portfolio.
Some things to think about:
- Some employers will only look at items they find necessary to determine if you are the right candidate for a job.
- Be sure to include excellent written material that corresponds with your selections.
- Your portfolio may be beautifully designed, but including items that do not represent your best work could do more harm than good. It is better to exclude an item rather than include if it is not going to improve your portfolio.
