Step 1 - Defining the Portfolio Context and Goals
Before beginning to build an electronic portfolio it is best to determine the purpose and audience for the portfolio. This can be done by answering a few questions.
What are the goals for the portfolio?
- Meet requirements for a program
- Document continual professional and personal growth
- Maintain current employment
- Gain employment in the future
- Personal
Who will be the portfolio audience?
- Faculty
- Current employer
- Future employer
- Family
Some portfolios may have several goals in mind. These goals will often, but not always, determine the audience of the portfolio. Once the goals and the primary audience have been determined for the portfolio, planning the portfolio is the next step.
