SPC Launches Continuing Education Website
January 7, 2010
Regent University's School of Psychology & Counseling's (SPC) Continuing Education Program experienced a 300 percent increase in enrollments from 2008 to 2009, according to Program Director Dr. Victoria Lynn Walker. And with the December launch of the new SPC Continuing Education (CE) website, providing online access to CE courses specifically designed to meet professional development needs, the numbers are expected to continue to increase.
Through the website, students, alumni, community members and professionals can earn CE credit to maintain licenses and other certificates.
The SPC Continuing Education Program offers a number of different ways perspective students can complete continuing education learning activities and courses to earn Continuing Education hours.
A unique feature to continuing education at Regent University is the School of Psychology and Counseling’s online on-demand continuing education courses. With online on-demand courses, users can pay for and complete a course at anytime, day or night for continuing education credit.
The online on-demand courses from the SPC Continuing Education Program allow perspective students to choose a course from of variety of subjects such as Marriage and Family, Emotional Disorders, Addictions, or Children and Teens, pay for the online course, complete all course tasks in the automated learning modules including watching videos, reading articles, completing a quiz and a course survey, and print out a customized certificate listing the student’s name and hours they have earned.
The SPC Continuing Education program also offers on-campus continuing education opportunities that lead to continuing education hours. Events such as the SPC Cultural Diversity series, SPC Trauma Center Trauma Studies certification courses, Psy.D. Colloquias, and other special events as planned provide perspective students with a variety of options to meet their continuing education needs.
Over 43,000 NCC need to earn 100 CE hours every five years to recertify and tens of thousands of psychologists, social workers, and others in similar fields are required to complete continuing education to maintain their licenses to practice.
Dr. Walker states, "Over the last decade, the number of individuals required to complete continuing education requirements to maintain their licensure in their professional fields has grown tremendously," Walker said. "As a result, the demand for high quality continuing education opportunities has grown. A unique feature to Regent SPC's online, on-demand CE courses is that students can complete all course tasks in automated learning modules."
The SPC Continuing Education Program offers professional counselors, psychologists, social workers, church leaders, and other helping professionals high quality continuing education opportunities with Regent’s special touch; the integration of Jesus Christ in the methods used to educate our students and assist them in working with their clients.
The new Continuing Education Program Website provides users with an array of choices for their continuing education needs from online courses to on-campus workshops. All online courses provide perspective participants with essential information in making their choices including course descriptions, learning objectives, as-well-as instructor background and expertise. In addition, perspective students can quickly see which accreditations and board approvals the school and the continuing education program has received.
Regent SPC's continuing education initiative brings cutting-edge discussions and lectures by preeminent mental health educators and clinicians on topics related to cultural diversity, professionalism and ethics, clinical practice and spiritual integration. With the launch of the new website, SPC now offers CE classes on campus and online.
