I completed my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Kent State University a CACREP accredited program under the direction of Mark Savickas, Ph.D. I also possess both an MA in Clinical Counseling and an MDiv in Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary. One would think that I lived in Ohio all my life but that's not quite true. I worked for 10 years as a university chaplain in the Chicago area and also in West Lafayette , Indiana . Those years of ministry convinced me of the need to continue to develop and hone my counseling skills. I have also worked in private and community counseling settings with families, adults, adolescents and children.

One area that has always fascinated me is that of career counseling. I view a satisfying occupation as a part of the foundation for a satisfying life. As Solomon once said, "It is the gift of God for every person to see good in all their labor." My passion is to help individuals identify their gifts, interests, abilities, values, and passions and then to link that self-knowledge to the world of work. I spent several years assisting undecided undergraduates accomplish just that and found it very rewarding. I continue to write in this area specifically focusing on assisting advisors and counselors to be more effective when working with career decision and transition.

I view my counselor educator position as a calling and as an entrusted gift from the Creator. Counselors have many different focus areas but all are usually passionate about their occupation and the privilege of helping others to become more whole. My position allows me to assist individual counselors who are motivated by their occupational calling to develop and to fulfill their gift from God. I love to enhance their effectiveness and I enjoy knowing that their training will improve the lives of numerous individuals and families. I see my role as that of an empowerer. My teaching, writing, research and service enable women and men to empower their clients, students, and supervisees.

I love and enjoy my family as well. My wife Traci and I have been married for many years and we have three beautiful young daughters Adelyn, Taylor and Claire. I love to spend time with all of them dreaming, reading, walking, talking, jumping on the trampoline, and just having fun.
