As a 14-year-old, Christopher Murphy was on his deathbed fighting two types
of cancer. Through this and other traumatic experiences, Murphy has watched
God mold him into the man he is today. "My journey to Regent wasn't so much
a choice I made as a choice made by God," he reflects. God led him out of
his comfort zone and placed him at Regent to stretch him and teach him trust.
After graduating with his Master's in Counseling from Regent, Murphy applied
his skills at two residential centers, focusing on the treatment of sexually
aggressive adolescent males and adolescent males who have conduct disorder
and an involvement in the juvenile justice system. He has also led domestic
violence groups for adult males and interacts with the court system regarding
various cases.
Murphy's experiences in the field left him wanting additional
resources to use in working with these populations, so he came back to Regent
to complete the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.). "The decision to return
to Regent was an easy one. After the great training I received in the master's
program, I could think of no better place to pick up where I left off than
the School of Psychology & Counseling at Regent." Since completing the
Master's in Counseling at Regent, Murphy has published several articles
and had two co-authored poster presentations at the Association for the Treatment
of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) and the Association for the Achievement of Behavior
Therapy (AABT).
