Computer Requirements -
Online M.A. in Counseling Program
Students will be expected to use computers for the Online Masters Degree in Counseling program. First, all students are issued a Regent email account, and it is vital that students check their Regent email frequently. Second, M.A. in Counseling classes make extensive use of a supplemental online learning environment called Blackboard. Students will need stable access to the Internet to use Blackboard. Weekly course materials, syllabi and even online assignments/exams are distributed or administered exclusively through Blackboard. Extensive use of the computer and related software for writing and revising papers is also expected. Students will typically have to access files in MS Word or PDF format. The program currently uses a Windows XP environment with Office 2003 applications (or higher) as the standard work tools. Students are advised to purchase and maintain a compatible computer (either a desktop or laptop). Finally, students will need to create an eportfolio using Blackboard portfolio or an external web authoring program.
The IT department for Regent University has compiled a list of recommended hardware and software. Students are required to own personal computers, and following the recommended hardware and software guidelines will enable students to take advantage of the various resources available (databases, Blackboard, etc.).
