Welcome
from the Program Director
There are three outstanding characteristics of our Doctoral Program in Counselor Education & Supervision (Ph.D. - CES). First, there is a core faculty, consisting
of four fulltime professors who work exclusively with
doctoral students. While the masters in counseling faculty
and the psychology faculty are available for research
and will teach some courses, students in the CES program
are predominately mentored through relationships with
the Ph.D. faculty who understand the issues of on-line
education, and are wholly committed to assisting you
in completing your Ph.D. education. Students in the Regent
CES program are not left to wander through the isolated
desert of academia without a guide. Though our students
may be all over the world, our faculty is anchored to
the campus at Virginia Beach .
A second characteristic is that
the on-line format permits a diversity of students
not otherwise possible in a traditional "brick
and mortar" program. Think about the wonderful richness
of a counseling program that offers a potential for worldwide
diversity. You may be reading this letter, contemplating
Ph.D. studies from your home in New York City; Seoul
, Korea ; Nairobi , Kenya ; or Topeka , Kansas . Anyone
with a computer and on-line access can potentially study
with us.
Finally, the Christian faith is the cornerstone of the
Regent CES program. Students who study at Regent are
seeking to become Ph.D. scholars in counseling. We teach
the values of healing and human restoration in the mental
health profession, and the values of healing and human
restoration found in the Christian tradition. This begins
with a commitment to Biblical understanding, and an integration
of two thousand years of Christian theology and practice
with the science of counseling developed over the past
century.
It is certainly worth mentioning the significance of the CACREP accreditation which was conferred upon the program in February 2008. This marked a milestone in the counseling profession as our program became the first and only online doctoral program in counselor education to receive such accreditation. This is further evidence how our program offers you excellence in professionally based, Biblically centered
education without your having to relocate to our campus.
This type of program provides you flexibility that many
adult learners need and desire. The latest instructional
theories and technologies are incorporated into the program
to ensure an exciting and challenging state of the art
course of study for you.
