The M.A. in Counseling prepares the student for professional licensure.* Those pursuing the M.A. in Counseling may choose an emphasis in either Community Counseling or School Counseling.
The Community Counseling Program (60
semester hours) combines contemporary counseling techniques
and theories with a solid biblical foundation for a spiritual
balance in the counseling approach. Graduates will be prepared
for subsequent career positions with public agencies, private
practices or mental health facilities. And those who desire
further study will be poised for the pursuit of doctoral
degrees including the Ph.D. in Counselor Education and
Supervision. Licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor
(LPC) in the State of Virginia requires 60 graduate hours
in counseling.
*In accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia. Other state requirements may differ.
Certificate of Advanced Counseling Studies (CACS)
Students who have already fulfilled the
requirements for the M.A. in Human Services Counseling
as of summer, 2006, have the opportunity to add the CACS
