In 1744, Italian philosopher and historian, Giambattista Vico, offered an apt account of the mission of a story-teller: “Now this is the three-fold labor of poetry (story-telling): (1.) To invent sublime fables suited to the popular understanding; (2.) to perturb to excess (entertain) with a view to the end proposed; (3.) and to teach the vulgar to act virtuously.” As Christians, we join with others to develop our gifts, our talents and our lives in ways that will help make a redemptive difference in the lives of others through the creative and prophetic power of story.
SAFD Certified Teacher
James Brown's work includes teaching at Kutztown University, Pa., and on staff at the New York Shakespeare Festival. He earned an MFA in Directing at the Florida State University School of Theatre.
Television and Film Actor and Professor
Anthony Carreiro currently teaches acting and movement at Long Beach City College and Los Angeles City College in California. He also teaches and provides fight choreography for local theater productions. He continues to act on a regular basis in film, television and commercials. Some of the more noteworthy projects he has been a part of are Lethal Weapon 2 and many sitcoms such as ER, Frasier and Cheers.
Journalist, Lawyer, Judge, Professor and Writer
Catherine Crier is an award-winning journalist, an accomplished lawyer, judge, professor and writer. She was a television anchor for the Court TV program, Catherine Crier Live, a daily show concerning legal news stories. Crier began her TV career at CNN where she co-anchored the programs Inside Politics ‘92 and The World Today. Later, ABC News hired her as a correspondent for ABC World News Tonight and the newsmagazine 20/20. After spending three and a half years with ABC News, Fox News Channel hired her to anchor The Crier Report, a live nightly talk show. Before becoming a television personality, Crier served as a Texas State District Judge for the 162nd District Court in Dallas County. She subsequently became the youngest elected state judge in Texas history at age 30. From 1982 to 1984, Crier was a civil litigation attorney in Dallas, Texas. Prior to this, from 1978 to 1981, she was an assistant district attorney and felony chief prosecutor for the Dallas County District Attorney's office.
Actor, Director and Producer
Mel Gibson is an Academy Award-winning director, actor and producer. Gibson studied at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, performing at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. Career highlights include Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and What Women Want.
SAFD Fight Director
Dale Girard is an award-winning fight director and author of the stage combat manual Actors On Guard. He is a senior member of the United Stuntmen's Association, an honorary fight master of Fight Directors Canada and an honorary member of The Russian Guild of Stage Movement Directors and Teachers. His work has been featured in professional theatres and opera houses throughout the United States and Canada and in several feature films. His credits include The Pioneer Theatre, Goodspeed Opera House, American Repertory Theatre, New York City Opera, Kentucky Opera, Long Wharf Theatre, Opera Colorado, Studio Arena Theatre, Opera Columbus, Center Stage, Florida Grand Opera, Vancouver Opera, Opera Alaska and the Hartford Stage. Along with his professional theatre credits, Girard is a master teacher, instructing classes and seminars in stage combat, acting and dramatic movement at colleges and universities.
SAFD Fight Director
Scot Mann has choreographed, performed and instructed stage combat across the globe, and his credits include the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, The Alliance Theatre Company and The Atlanta Opera.
Special Effects and Cinematographer
Some of Charles Shuman's credits are director of photography for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, filmography cinematographer for Journey to the Center of the Earth, director of photography for Guinevere, and Wild Wild West and visual effects director of photography for Michael.
