Introducing
Karen Legg: Originally from Greeneville, Tennessee,
Communication Ph.D. student Karen Legg and her husband John came
to Regent from Atlanta, where she had been teaching public
speaking as an adjunct professor at Georgia Perimeter Community
College.
Although Karen completed both her undergraduate and graduate
degrees in communication at the University of Tennessee,
Knoxville, she was struggling to figure out how God would use
her education and skills.
The answer partially came when her husband John, now a
first-year Regent Law student, found the Communication Ph.D.
program at Regent while he was looking for law schools.
“Regent’s program really resonated with my heart,” Karen said.
Growing up in a wonderful Christian home as the daughter of a
pastor, the integration of her faith with communication is
important to Karen. “I want to help the church grow, and be
stronger and more Christ-like, and communication can help the
process,” she said. “Regent offered the best opportunity to
integrate faith and communication.”
Upon graduation, Karen plans to pursue a career in teaching, and
also in consulting with churches and ministries in the areas of
conflict management and resolution, and crisis communication. “I
want to see others become better communicators,” she said.
“Christians can love and think, not just pursue a blind faith.
You don’t have to turn your brain off to be a Christian.” ---
