Mystery and Romance at Comm/Arts

This past weekend hundreds of people crowded into an Anaheim, California hall for a screening of a futuristic, award-winning film. I was one of them.

The film is SYN, a Matrix-styled tale about the true nature of man. Written, edited and directed by Ben Chavda, produced by Judy Ma, and co-produced by Marlo Diaz, this Regent production just garnered the Best in Show award in its category from the Broadcast Educators Association. That sets the work of Regent University’s cinema-television students ahead of other film schools such as NYU, USC, and UCLA. I am not surprised. I saw it for the first time recently, and enjoyed watching actors Ben Jackson, Chris Nelson, Kelli Barrett, and Deborah Clay give Neo and Trinity some fun competition.

Speaking of the future, I recently overheard Journalism students Terri Simmons, Katherine Newingham, LaToya Scott and others sharing real secrets about love, romance and marriage in the newsroom.

It turned out they were working on the Valentine’s Day editions of iVoice, the new Regent University webcast. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out at The Standard Report.

Web traffic is climbing at The Standard Report, according to the latest reports from Managing Editor Andrea Hicks. More than 3,000 unique visitors surfed the site in January, racking up more than 12,000 page views and an average of more than 15 minutes on the site. Take a few minutes to check out the inside stories written by fellow students.

Rumors are already flying about who did the dirty deeds in the upcoming production, Ten Little Indians, which opens this coming Thursday. Ethel and I have our tickets. Add a little mystery to your life and join us.

One special event on campus that you really do not want to miss is the special student performances on Tuesday, March 1st at noon in the Main Theater. Come and find out what God is doing at Comm/Arts on campus.
