Student Proposal Goes Viral

The internet swarmed when Regent University School of Communication & the Arts (SCA) alumna April Albritton '13 said "yes" to SCA student Beecher Reuning's marriage proposal. Shortly after a video Reuning posted documenting the couple's relationship—and ultimately their engagement—Beecher and Reuning's major life-decision has become a major hit on the web.
It wasn't long after the proposal video, which features Albritton and Reuning's "greatest hits" from their relationship history, was made public to friends and family members on various social media sites that it began to receive thousands of views. A few days later it was picked up on popular online video sites such as GodVine, GodTube, BuzzFeed, Yahoo Canada and even MSN Austrailia.
"I know it happened because our friends were awesome enough to share our story," said Albritton.
On Sunday, Dec. 29, the couple shared their story via satellite on Fox News's Fox & Friends at the network's Atlanta headquarters.
"I thought 'what better way to capture this?'" said Reuning during the interview. "And it was also an added plus that I could surprise her."
And though the interview had the potential to be broadcast to many more people than even saw the initial video, Albritton explained that she and Reuning were "too excited to be nervous."
"We both felt so overwhelmingly blessed by the opportunity that we were just thrilled to be on air to talk about our relationship, which has already been a blessing in itself," said Albritton. "It was crazy to think that behind this camera were potentially millions of people watching us live as we shared our story."
Much of Albriton and Reuning's story has come together through their shared experiences at Regent. The video features reenactments from their relationship around the Virginia Beach campus.
"Regent has had a huge role in our story," said Albritton, explaining that without the support from their group of friends and persevering in the midst of a personal tragedy, the couple might never have met. "Regent will always be very close to our hearts because God used the University to bring us together."
