The WaterTower Theatre has selected Regent professor Eric Harrell’s original performance piece, An Inch of Rope, for production in their Out of the Loop Festival. The festival is designed to give voice to theatrical works that are considered “out of the loop” of traditional theatre fare. This will be the professional premiere of Harrell’s play.
An Inch of Rope is both written and performed by Harrell, a professional director and actor (AEA, SAG) as well as Head of the MFA Acting Program at Regent. The play follows the story of Kyle Mason, played by Harrell, as he reflects upon the events leading to the tragic death of his sister. As the primary story line unfolds, a second story line takes a metaphoric look at the effects of this loss on his faith and relationship with God. The play tackles the realities of death and loss with great candor while at the same time initiating a theological exploration into the presence of God in moments of tragedy and chaos.
Harrell will be joined in the production by Regent MFA student, Michael Woods, who plays the character of Theos. An Inch of Rope will be performed three times over the course of the festival, March 1-11. The WaterTower Theatre is a professional, union-affiliated theatre in Dallas, Texas.
