Biography

Jay Black is committed to training moviemakers through his work at Regent University. He believes in the power of story as a spiritual force of communication, and he is passionate about mastering the moving image as a vehicle for the Glory of Jesus Christ.

“I believe that stories have spiritual power. Like the decisions we make every day, the stories we digest as truth draw us closer to the Kingdom of God, or they hurt us. They are never neutral.”
A former freelancer, Jay has been hired to act, produce, write, direct, edit, and light a variety of professional projects.  He continues to pursue the art of telling stories by producing and directing independent movies.  He considers it his lifelong mission to teach what he has learned about the craft to those God has called to this field.
Jay is married to Michelle "Mikki" Black, a director and writer for children's theater. Mikki also is a regular host of PhilAm Television and does stand-up and anchor news for Virginia Beach TV, and Chesapeake TV. Together they founded their production company, Illumination Pictures. Their first major project is a 35mm feature film called Stray which tells the story of a homeless boy.
