MFA in Film & TV: Directing
Admissions Requirements

MFA Directing allows entry into the program every eight weeks, with a total of five starts.

  • August Start: August 15 Deadline | October Start: October 1 Deadline
  • January Start: December 1 Deadline | March Start: February 15 Deadline

Note: Your application to the graduate School of Communication & the Arts will be complete when you have submitted all of the above items.


Step 1: Application

Submit your application using our Regent University Online Application.

Note: If you are unable to complete our application due to a disability, please contact our Admissions Office and an admissions representative will provide reasonable accommodations to assist you in completing the application.

Step 2: Application Fee

Option 1: Pay the $50 nonrefundable application fee online during the application process, via our Miscellaneous Payments Form, or by check or money order mailed to Regent University, Enrollment Support Services, 1000 Regent University Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.

Option 2: Attend a graduate School of Communication & the Arts on-campus or online information session to learn how to streamline your application process, discover financial aid resources, and waive your $50 application fee. RSVP Today!

Step 3: Submit your Unofficial College Transcripts

Regent University's Office of the Registrar is requesting your official transcripts from your degree-granting institution. We are able to examine and view your unofficial transcript in order to gain you an admissions decision. Please submit your unofficial transcript to our Admissions Office by email to using the subject line: COM Master's Application Pieces.

Step 4: Writing Sample

Submit electronically to an admissions counselor at using the subject line: SCA Masters Application Pieces.

In 750-1000 words, please write an essay about yourself, including your artistic, professional and spiritual journeys. Explain why you want to pursue the MFA in Film & Television, with a concentration in directing. In your essay, discuss your personal, professional, artistic and spiritual goals. What kinds of films do you want to make? How do you think this degree will prepare you for the media work God has planned for you? Write in a professional manner as we will evaluate this essay as your writing sample for admissions.

At the bottom of your essay please include the contact information (phone number, email and title) for two professional or educational references. These should be people who would be willing to provide our faculty with a verbal recommendation should they need to be contacted.

Step 5: Current Résumé

Provide a professional résumé of employment and accomplishments. Email to using the subject line: SCA Masters Application Pieces or fax to 757.352.4394.

Step 6: Demo Reel of Recent Work

Those wishing to apply for the MFA in Film & Television (Directing Concentration) must submit a demo reel of recent film work. The reel may be submitted either by DVD or by YouTube link. You can view the submission instructions here.
