Doctoral Project Abstract
Building and Sustaining a Great Company Through Strategic Leadership
Bridget R. Gilmore
In the current volatile economy, businesses are failing resulting in a mass exodus of leadership. They are either quitting or being fired leaving their organizations vulnerable and diminishing its competitive advantage. What do organizations all over the world have in common? They want to build and sustain their organizations so that they will have an enduring competitive advantage. The author of this project proposes that strategic leaders are the foundation that help build and sustain organizations because of innate foundational leadership qualifications (FLQs):
- Practice Espoused Values
- The Ability to Engender Trust
- Develop Mind, Body, and Spirit
- Concentrate on Ethical Transformation
- Increase Organizational Knowledge
- Are Global Leaders
- Skilled in Strategic Foresight
- Are Creative
- Concern for Leadership Continuity
- Know They Need Rest
Building and Sustaining a Great Company Through Strategic Leadership is a web-based leadership computer based training (CBT) module designed to teach executives and Human Resource leadership about the 10 foundational leadership qualifications (FLQs) found in strategic leaders that are necessary to help them build and sustain their organizations. Each FLQ consists of an assessment and considers 85% or more as mastery. If the leader scores less than an 85%, each FLQ offers additional training related to the assessment topic. The training consists of numerous articles written by the author.
Leaders that master the Building and Sustaining a Great Company Through Strategic Leadership CBT: "He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built" (Luke 6:48). Organizations will achieve a long-term sustainable competitive advantage because they are willing to build their organizations on solid foundations, as suggested by Luke 6:48.
