Doctoral Project Abstract

Business Plan for the establishment of the function of Organization Development and Change Management for Creative Partners, Inc.

Kay M. Bower

The Business Plan for the Establishment of the function of Organization Development and Change Management was designed for Creative Partners, Inc., (CPI - a fictional representation of an actual organization). The Business Plan proposes to foster the leadership and resource development necessary to establish a flexible, innovative, engaged Information Technology (IT) team that works collaboratively, globally, and effectively through the creation and implementation of an Organization Development (OD) and Change Management (CM) function.

The goals of the IT OD/CM function include developing values-based leadership, implemented through collaborative teams, as the foundation for the IT organization. The OD/CM function will begin by building specific knowledge, skills, experience, and capabilities into each member of the IT team in these focus areas:

  • Interpersonal
  • Intercultural
  • Interdependence
  • Engagement
  • Collaboration
  • Leadership
  • Integration
  • Self-Awareness

Methods, models, and approaches are provided to address each area of development and to guide and manage the transformation of the IT organization. Interventions such as coaching and leadership development are defined and introduced. Targets are determined and baselined to measure organization development achievement over time. Achieving these targets sets the IT organization on a path to meet the challenges of the future.

CPI IT finds itself in the place where no amount of simple improvement in what is already done will be sufficient to meet its challenges. Establishing the function of OD/CM for the IT team sets the foundation for success for the IT team.
