Regent SIFE Presents Christmas Production as Entrepreneurial Venture

The Gifts of the Magi fills community need for family-friendly, dinner theater entertainment.

The cast of The Gifts of the Magi bring drama to The Founders Inn & Spa's new dinner theater.

Virginia Beach, Va. – The Regent Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has ventured into the entertainment arena with their latest entrepreneurial outreach – a dinner theater production of the The Gifts of the Magi, which opened November 25 as part of the Grand Illumination Celebration at The Founders Inn & Spa.

The Gifts of the Magi is a light-hearted, heart-warming musical with wonderful songs and quirky characters that is adapted from two short stories by O. Henry. The play follows a formal, three-course dinner.

“This was the best of dining and entertainment,” described Tony Pezzella, one of many opening night patrons who applauded the actors with a standing ovation.

This production is the result of collaboration from some unlikely partners. “It’s actually a business venture, but the Regent University Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team is the producer, the Regent University Summer Theater Camp director, Chris Nelson, is the director and The Founders Inn & Spa is the perfect venue,” explained Jefferson Ledgerwood, MBA student in the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship.

“It started from a conversation. There was a market need, and we could meet it. Before we realized it, we had a production team, venture capital, and the dream of bringing a dinner theater event to the community was launched,” added Christine Dunn, one of the SIFE project managers and MBA student.

According to Ledgerwood, the cast is comprised of students from the Virginia Governor's School for the Arts, local professional actors and students from Regent's Master of Fine Arts program.

SIFE establishes student teams on university campuses and develops community outreach projects that address the five educational topics of market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and business ethics. By funding this venture, SIFE became the producer of this collaborative production.

“What SIFE is doing with this venture is an integral part of who we are and what we teach in our MBA program,” said Dr. Bruce Winston, dean of the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship. “These students took action on a viable idea, and that’s the first step toward success in business – and in life.”

The dinner theater musical will be a part of The Founders Inn & Spa holiday landscape offering performances at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on December 2 and 16, and at 7:00 p.m. on December 9.  Tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for children under 12 years of age. Tickets can be purchased through the Regent University Box Office online at www.regent.edu/theatre or by calling
