Regent Dean Awarded “Most Supportive Dean of the Year”
at National SIFE Competition
Virginia Beach, Va., May 22, 2007 – Dr. Bruce E. Winston, dean of the Regent University School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship was recently recognized as the “Most Supportive Dean of the Year” at the national SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) Exposition & Competition in Dallas, Texas.
Regent SIFE’s Courtny Fout presents Dean Winston with “Most Supportive Dean” award.
Nominated by the Regent SIFE team, Winston was selected for this award by judges comprised of presidents and CEOs of corporate sponsors such as Frito Lay, Radio Shack, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Pepsico, Wells Fargo Financial, Aflac, DFB Pharmaceuticals, 3M, Coca-Cola, J.C. Penney, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Campbell’s and many others.
Courtny Fout, Regent SIFE director of finance, presented Winston’s award during the opening ceremonies of the National SIFE Competition. “Winning the support of a college’s administration is critical to long-term sustainability," Fout explained. "At Regent University, we found the support with the appointment of the new dean of the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship.”
Bob Van Hees and Lindsay Hartline, Regent SIFE co-managing directors stated that from the first day of Winston’s administration, which began on July 1, 2006, he has encouraged the team to think big, be creative and take risks. “Dr. Winston has put his administrative, financial and institutional support to his words," Van Hees said. "More importantly, he has exceeded our expectations and continues to inspire the entire team in new ways every day,” added Hartline.
Winston is the lead promoter and advocate for SIFE across the Regent University campus, proudly wearing a SIFE lapel pin and interjecting Regent SIFE activities and successes at meetings throughout the university.
According to Winston, “SIFE helps fulfill Regent's efforts to 'transform the world,' thus every project that SIFE takes on becomes an extension of the university and a public demonstration of what Regent stands for. If we can help local, regional, national and global businesses, as well as non-commercial organizations to be more effective and better prepared to face the challenges of the future, then we have advanced the mission to which we are called.”
Several key areas in which Winston supports the team are through the creation and institutionalizing of work stipends and scholarships for the SIFE team’s leadership, significant financial support, prime office space to boost interaction with faculty, and upgraded office and media production equipment.
Winston’s desire to financially support the Regent SIFE team as well as the SIFE team’s extraordinary work is igniting interest among Regent alumni as a non-solicited gift of $15,000 was unexpectedly given to Regent SIFE by an MBA alumnus at the school’s commissioning ceremony held in May 2007.
Winston has served in various faculty and administrative roles at Regent University within the Schools of Business and Leadership Studies since 1991 and has been instrumental in developing relevant and academically rigorous programs, and most recently leading a smooth transition as these two schools joined together to become the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship on July 1, 2006.
