Each participant had been nominated by Peruvian congressmen and congresswomen who attended a congressional breakfast hosted by GLE in late 2007 in Lima.
Participants represented small and medium Peruvian companies who were interested in receiving training on growing and expanding business and, more specifically, to develop a business strategy for exporting. Christian entrepreneurs who own small and medium-sized companies were also invited to take the training.
Taught by local experts and members of the Center of Entrepreneurship at San Ignacio de Loyola University (USIL) through an exchange agreement with GLE, the first two all-day sessions addressed the topics of exploring new markets, preparing the company for exporting, principles of finance and capital markets and investment projects evaluation.
According to GLE International Programs Specialist Dr. Marcela Matviuk, "It was very interesting to see groups of entrepreneurs surround the professors during the breaks, asking questions, searching for insight and advice and to see them interacting and exchanging information. The quality and level of this training really excelled."
"We looked for specialists who could not only deliver the general content, but who also had extensive and inclusive knowledge of the Peruvian context, especially that which affects export for small and medium enterprises," said Dr. Sergio Matviuk, GLE assistant professor and head of the project.
Presenters included Dr. Daniel Diez Canseco, executive director of the Center of Entrepreneurship at USIL and executive director of Probide; Professor Decio Rubio Urrelo, economist; Braggi BamBerger, financial specialist; and Professor Mario Vargas, exporter.
The next two training sessions are scheduled for the first week of June 2008.
