Regent University to Train Peru’s Entrepreneurs and Congress Members in
Entrepreneurship Development

July 19, 2007

Dr. Matviuk and members of the Peruvian Congress

Virginia Beach, Va. Peruvian President Alan Garcia has accepted an offer from Regent University to provide entrepreneurship development training through a national program to reach thousands of young entrepreneurs, business owners and Congress members in Peru through Regent’s School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship (GLE).

“We are thrilled to be able to provide the type of entrepreneurial training that is needed to assist in the economic development of Peru,” said Dr. Bruce E. Winston, GLE dean. “Global leadership and entrepreneurship reside at the core of our school, and we appreciate the fact that President Garcia has given us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the Peruvian people.”

Dr. Sergio Matviuk, GLE professor and director of the Doctor of Strategic Leadership program has been selected by Dean Winston, to spearhead these programs.

“While Peru has experienced economic growth at the macro level, President Garcia’s goal is to foster entrepreneurship to mitigate unemployment and stimulate micro economic growth,” said Matviuk.

Dr. Sergio Matviuk and Mrs. Pilar Nores de Garcia, Peru’s first lady, discuss the entrepreneurship development programs for Peru

Matviuk has met personally with Peru’s first lady, Mrs. Pilar Nores de Garcia, the Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Dr. Susana Pinilla, several members of Peru’s Congress and pastors of Peruvian mega-churches to discuss training and educational needs that should be addressed in the curriculum.

Based on these and other conversations between Regent University and various Peruvian institutions, Matviuk will design programs to motivate and train young entrepreneurs, ages 18-29, to start their own businesses.  He will also develop programs to train medium-sized businesses to identify new markets, new products and to increase effectiveness so they can spur economic development by creating new jobs.

In addition to these groups, Peruvian Congress members will also receive training to identify the steps they can take as legislators to foster entrepreneurship and business development in their country.

These programs are scheduled for implementation in Peru within the next 20 months.
