March 6, 2008

Dr. Paul Carr

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Dr. Paul Carr, Regent University School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship (GLE) professor will host the Third Annual Autonomous Learning World Caucus (ALWC) March 10-13 at Oxford University's Exeter College and Linton Lodge.

This invitation-only event includes top scholars in the areas of autonomous learning, self-directed learning, human resource development and learner-centered leadership to create environments for learning and thinking within these areas.

Scholars in attendance at ALWC represent some of the most prestigious colleges and universities from around the globe, including Regent University, The George Washington University, Spring Arbor University, Idaho State University, Johns Hopkins University, The University of Hertfordshire and Indiana University.

According to Carr, " A paramount consideration for a meeting of this nature is to foster an environment of learning and thinking from a global perspective that includes mentorship for doctoral students from some of the most influential scholars in the world today."

Dr. Gary Confessore, one of the most prominent autonomous learning scholars known for developing the construct of autonomous learning decades ago, will present at the 2008 ALWC. Confessore is also a distinguished adjunct professor in the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship where he facilitates learning in he Human Resource Development major, which is directed by Carr.

Graduate students from Regent's School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship and several other institutions from around the world have been invited to participate and help foster thinking and learning from autonomous learning and biblical perspectives.

Oxford University's Exeter College

"The 2008 ALWC will afford doctoral students, faculty and other scholars an opportunity to think, learn and essentially live the mission and vision of GLE while immersed in a milieu of learning environments that has been at the forefront of the Oxford principle for hundreds of years," said Carr.

He continued, "Oxford is the perfect setting to hold such an endeavor, due largely to their history, cultural mores and method of facilitating learning."

Previous caucus attendees were changed as a result of this event, "which allowed them to embrace learning and research while creating a colleague base of some of the most influential scholars in the field — all done in the paramount nucleus of learning that is Oxford," stated Carr.
