New MBA Capstone Course Involves Real-World Expertise From Industry Leaders

April 24, 2008

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. For some, an MBA capstone project may seem like an academic exercise required to graduate, but for Regent MBA students, it's their chance to gain real-world experience and feedback from experts around the world.

With the launch of a new MBA program format in 2007, the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship (GLE) and the Center for Entrepreneurship will collaborate to offer MBA students expanded opportunities for international business experience, research and networking with industry experts through the program's final capstone course.

The Center for Entrepreneurship, led by its founder, Dr. John Mulford, has been instrumental in actively engaging individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations in eastern Europe, Asia and Africa, to train and support entrepreneurs who have a hope and a vision to transform their communities through Christian excellence, integrity and charity.

"Dr. Mulford will be instrumental in shaping and overseeing the final MBA course through the involvement of global entrepreneurs and business developers," said Bruce Winston, GLE dean.

In this final course, students will pursue one of three options: 1) develop business plans that will facilitate the growth and mission of their current employer, 2) create a plan for launching their own new company or 3) collaborate with one of the center's teams on a project within one of the world's emerging markets.

"What makes this unique," said Mulford, "is that this course will incorporate an advisory group of marketplace professionals and leaders from around the world who will review and grade the students' business plan presentations from a real-world perspective, providing valuable input from experts in their respective fields."

Initial feedback from current MBA students has been exceptionally positive with regard to the new MBA format. It is expected that those positive comments will also be applied to the MBA capstone project due to Dr. Mulford's leadership, insight and network through the Center for Entrepreneurship.
