The Values of Incarnational Leadership
The celebration of the birth of Jesus during this advent season is an opportunity to revisit the Christian doctrine of the Incarnation and the implication this Biblical belief has on the quest for authentic Christian leadership. Incarnational leadership is an attempt to imitate the self-emptying act of Jesus as the Word made flesh that came to dwell among us. Incarnational leadership promotes a leadership approach that values embracing the humanity of others and active humility. This leadership approach asks for Christologically grounded, humble courage where followers are redefined in terms of praxis and not propinquity. This leadership praxis is one of charity, identification of those being led and of authentic love.

About the Speaker
Corné Bekker completed his doctorate degree at the Rand Afrikaans University in Johannesburg, South Africa where he specialized in the use of socio-rhetorical criticism in historical and social reconstruction of historical communities. He joined Regent University in 2005 after serving as the assistant dean of Rhema Bible College in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Dr.Bekker serves as an associate professor for the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship at Regent University and is editor of the  Journal of Biblical Perspectives in Leadership. He teaches in the doctoral programs of the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship and is actively involved in research on the use of hermeneutics and spirituality to explore leadership. Serving on the board of the South African Council for Theological Education, Dr. Bekker was nominated to the Standards Generating Body for Theology and Ministry of the South African Qualifications Authority and served on the Consultative Forum of the South African Council of Churches. Dr. Bekker is currently completing a second doctorate in Spirituality at the University of South Africa. He can be reached at clbekker@regent.edu.
