Students can earn the Doctor of Strategic Leadership degree in 3.5 to 4 years, provided that all requirements, such as successful completion of coursework, integrative paper and the DSL Project have been met. The maximum time allowed to complete the program is seven years. A minimum of 60 credit hours is required beyond the master's degree to complete the Doctor of Strategic Leadership degree.
A minimum of 60 credit hours beyond the master’s degree is required to complete the DSL program. It is, however, the demonstration of independent scholarly ability at the doctoral level, rather than the mere accumulation of credits, that is required to successfully complete the program. Doctoral students may choose to receive the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies once they have successfully completed 30 credit hours of coursework. All students pursuing the Doctor of Strategic Leadership must complete the following:
- All three on-campus residencies
- All required coursework
- Successful completion of culminating integrative paper following completion of all coursework
- Fulfillment of all doctoral project requirements including oral defense
If a student needs additional time to complete the DSL project after registering and paying for 60 semester hours, the student must register for one DSL Project credit per semester until the project is successfully completed and defended.
Doctoral students must maintain continuous enrollment in the program during all academic years. A student may request a leave of absence during the first five semesters of required courses. The student would then resume doctoral studies one year later at the start of the unfinished semester and would participate as a member of the new cohort. An academic year is comprised of three semesters: fall, spring and summer. One semester is approximately 13 weeks in length. Each year DSL students take
- 6 credit hours in the fall semester
- 6 credit hours in the spring semester
- 6 credit hours in the summer semester
Admission to the DSL program does not constitute or guarantee a student's admission to candidacy for the DSL degree. Admission to candidacy is contingent upon the following:
- Successful completion of coursework (with at least a 3.0 GPA).
- Successful completion of the culminating integrative paper.
- The recommendation of the student's doctoral committee.
- Approval by the doctoral faculty committee.
- Approval by the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship (GLE) faculty.
- Compliance with all applicable requirements of Regent University.
